Flemingdon Food Bank:
In 2010, Ansaar Foundation, as part of a multi-faith coalition made an humble effort to partner and support the Flemingdon Community Food Bank.
Every month, the food bank serves over 4800 families from diverse communities. Its pantry creates two kinds of food boxes; one meets Halal standards and includes legumes, snacks, powdered milk and sometimes meat; the other hamper includes pasta, cereal and canned meat.
Food for Life:
This is our new program for which we are collecting funds. Through this program we would like to provide non-perishable food to individuals who are homeless in partnership with homeless shelters to support the most marginalized individuals and seniors. Volunteers and staff will be involved in packaging and distribution of food bags to at least 100 individuals once a week.
Non-perishable items will include: Granola and cereal bars, Trail mix, ramon noodles, fruit cups, cookies, macaroni and cheese, fruit snacks, canned tuna, coconut water juice, packaged mixed nuts, crackers and snacks.
Gift Hampers for Families:
Every Ramadan in partnership with New Circles Community Services, Ansaar Foundation assists families by donating basic necessities such as lentils, oil, rice, flour, diapers, toiletries. Expressing their gratitude, we receive the letters from some of the recipients wanting us to share their expressions with all.
Every Year Ansaar Foundation addresses food insecurity issues of over 300 Homeless people in downtown Toronto with Iftaar and Eid Feeding Programs. The cost of each meal is $6, which includes Rice, meat, vegetable and juice. Around 50 volunteers come together to show their support in helping the homeless people.
As part of our efforts to reduce poverty and empower lives, we partake at various conferences, workshops, campaigns and planning meetings. Ansaar has been actively participating as a member of Multi-Faith Alliance against Homelessness; Interfaith Social Assistance Reform Coalition and acive advocate for National Housing Strategy.
